What are the Diablo Clone and the Annihilus?
The Diablo Clone (DClone, or Uber Diablo) is a world event boss and the only source of the Annihilus — a unique small charm with +1 to all skills, up to +20 all attributes and +20 all resistances, plus bonus experience. Together with the Hellfire Torch from the Pandemonium Event, it is one of the two "must-have" endgame charms.
Two things make the Annihilus special. First, the fight is triggered at the server level, not by anything you do alone in your own game. Second, even in a full party only one Annihilus drops per kill — which is why organized "walks" and trading exist around this event.
How the spawn works in D2R
D2R's mechanic differs from legacy Diablo II. Your Battle.net region and game mode form a "core" — a pool of servers. When players on a core collectively sell 75–125 Stone of Jordan rings to NPC vendors (the exact number is random within that range), the event triggers on every Hell difficulty game on that core at once.
- Ladder and non-ladder are separate cores — SoJs sold on non-ladder do not advance the ladder counter.
- Hardcore and softcore share the same core within a mode, so a softcore ladder walk also spawns DClone in hardcore ladder Hell games.
As SoJs are sold, every game on the core sees a sequence of progress messages:
- Terror gazes upon Sanctuary
- Terror approaches Sanctuary
- Terror begins to form within Sanctuary
- Terror spreads across Sanctuary
- Terror is about to be unleashed upon Sanctuary
- Diablo has invaded Sanctuary
When the counter completes, the screen shakes and the final message appears — DClone is now live on the core.
Catching a walk
Selling 75–125 SoJs solo is impractical, so the community organizes "DClone walks": a host announces a region and mode, sells the SoJs, and participants simply sit in a Hell game on that core. Community discords and forums track the SoJ counter; the practical play is to join a Hell game when the messages reach stage 4–5 ("Terror spreads…" / "Terror is about to be unleashed…") and wait. Some events are free; others ask for a SoJ or two as an entry fee.
Spawning DClone in your game
Once the event is live, DClone spawns in place of the first SuperUnique or boss monster your character gets near. Choose the spot deliberately:
- Blood Moor (Act 1): the safest option. The surrounding monsters are the weakest in the game, so you fight DClone with almost no interference — the right call for mid-strength characters.
- Eldritch the Rectifier (Frigid Highlands, Act 5): the fastest option. He always spawns a short run north of the waypoint, making repeat attempts quick — best for characters that can handle Act 5 trash.
Either way, clear the regular monsters around the spawn point before focusing on DClone himself.
The fight
DClone hits hard with fire spells and melee, is highly resistant across the board, and — the part that stalls most attempts — has very heavy life regeneration. If your damage comes in bursts with gaps, his life bar simply refills.
- Open Wounds is the answer. Open Wounds stops his regeneration; Prevent Monster Heal does the same job. Put an Open Wounds source on your mercenary (or yourself) and keep him applied.
- Stack fire resistance — his fire attacks are the main threat to you and your merc.
- Proven killers: the Smite Paladin and other physical builds with Life Tap handle him comfortably — the same setups used for the Pandemonium Event work here.
- A Life Tap wand on weapon swap keeps your mercenary alive through the fight.
The Annihilus reward
DClone drops an unidentified Annihilus every time — but only one per kill, regardless of player count:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Skills | +1 to all skills |
| Attributes | +10–20 to all attributes (variable) |
| Resistances | All resistances +10–20 (variable) |
| Experience | +5–10% to experience gained (variable) |
| Requirement | Level 70 |
All three variable lines roll independently, so perfect 20/20/10 Annis are rare and valuable — check our trading guide before selling yours short.
