What is the Pandemonium Event?
The Pandemonium Event, also known as "Ubers" or "Uber Tristram", is the ultimate challenge Diablo II: Resurrected inherits from the classic game — it was originally added in patch 1.11 of Lord of Destruction. Clearing it grants the Hellfire Torch, a unique large charm with +3 to a class's skills that every endgame build wants in its inventory.
Beyond equipping your own characters, Torches are reliable trade currency in multiplayer: the class and stat rolls are random, so off-class or low-roll Torches always have a market, especially early in a ladder season.
Step 1: Farm the three keys
Three keyholders on Hell difficulty each drop one type of key. You need three of each key — one full set opens exactly one Mini-Uber portal, and there are three portals to open:
| Key | Dropped by | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Key of Terror | The Countess | Forgotten Tower, Black Marsh (Act 1) |
| Key of Hate | The Summoner | Arcane Sanctuary (Act 2) |
| Key of Destruction | Nihlathak | Halls of Vaught (Act 5) |
Key drop rates are modest, so expect to repeat these runs. The Countess doubles as a rune farm and Nihlathak is on the way to Pindleskin, which makes key farming easy to combine with a normal MF routine.
Step 2: The Mini-Ubers
With your keys collected, go to Harrogath on Hell difficulty. Place one Key of Terror, one Key of Hate and one Key of Destruction in the Horadric Cube and transmute — this opens a red portal to one of three Mini-Uber arenas, chosen at random. You cannot target a specific portal, so always open all three in the same game, and move a short distance between transmutes so the portals don't stack on top of each other.
Lilith — Matron's Den (drops Diablo's Horn)
The most dangerous of the Mini-Ubers. Lilith deals massive poison damage with both her regular attacks and toxic spells, and she is immune to poison herself. Bring stacked poison resistance and antidotes, and do not try to out-poison her.
Uber Duriel — Forgotten Sands (drops Baal's Eye)
Arguably the easiest of the three, but with two annoyances: a permanent Holy Freeze aura and heavy life regeneration that can out-heal weak damage. He is immune to cold, so leave the Blizzard Sorceress at home — physical damage builds beat the regen most reliably. He tends to spawn near the center of the map, but can appear anywhere, sometimes right on top of your portal.
Uber Izual — Furnace of Pain (drops Mephisto's Brain)
Immune to cold and hits hard with physical and cold melee attacks, backed up by Chilling Armor, Frost Nova and Teleport. The Furnace of Pain has a few fixed layouts with set Izual spawn points at the far end.
Important: clear the trash around Lilith and Izual before engaging them. If Oblivion Knights or Hell Temptresses spawn nearby, their Amplify Damage curse can get you one-shot — especially on a budget setup.
Step 3: Uber Tristram — the Prime Evils
Back in Harrogath, cube Diablo's Horn + Baal's Eye + Mephisto's Brain and transmute to open the red portal to Tristram. All three Prime Evils spawn in the center of town, and all three are Extra Fast, Magic Resistant and immune to one element each.
Uber Mephisto — the real boss
Mephisto is by far the most dangerous enemy in the event. He carries a level 20 Conviction aura that strips 125% of your resistances, and his lightning spells hit brutally hard through it. To negate Conviction entirely you need roughly 300% total lightning and cold resistance (fire and poison matter far less). He is immune to lightning, Lightning Enchanted, and spawns waves of skeletons while aggro'd.
Uber Baal — the sponge
Baal poses little direct threat but has the largest life pool of the three. He is immune to cold, casts high-level Chilling Armor (which tanks your hit chance as an attacker) and teleports onto his target. His Specter and Dark Lord minions are immune to physical, and the Specters' mana burn can cripple casters.
Uber Diablo — the fragile one
Diablo is surprisingly squishy: his only defense is immunity to fire, plus an Armageddon-type spell that chips away at you over time. The real danger is his Pit Lord minions — immune to everything except physical damage — which become the bigger threat if they pile up.
Divide and conquer
Fighting all three at once is how runs end. Instead, split them: enter Tristram and edge toward the center from the left until Mephisto charges you, then pull him to the top-left corner and kill him there. Next, circle to the bottom-right river and bait Baal into teleporting to you near the middle house. Only then move into the center to finish Diablo.
Best builds and survival tips
The Ubers are endgame content — bring a strong, geared build, not a fresh ladder starter. The proven clearers:
- Smite Paladin ("Uber Smiter"): the classic answer. Smite always hits and triggers life steal via curses, so with Dracul's Grasp gloves, a Grief phase blade and Herald of Zakarum the fight becomes a formality.
- Mirrored Blades Warlock: the new class clears the event comfortably — Grief sword, Fortitude armor and a Phoenix monarch give it the damage and sustain to trade blows with all three brothers. See our Warlock builds guide for the full setup.
- Frenzy Barbarian: dual Grief phase blades, Arreat's Face and Laying of Hands shred the Prime Evils with physical damage.
Two universal tips: keep Full Rejuvenation Potions on your belt for the seconds before Life Tap kicks in, and shop a Wand of Life Tap (available from wand vendors starting in Nightmare Act 1) for your weapon swap — precasting Life Tap covers you until Dracul's Grasp procs on its own.
The Hellfire Torch reward
The last Prime Evil you kill in Uber Tristram drops the Hellfire Torch, a unique large charm:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Class skills | +3 to all skills of a random class (not tied to your character's class) |
| Attributes | +10–20 to all attributes (variable) |
| Resistances | All resistances +10–20 (variable) |
| Proc | 5% chance to cast level 10 Firestorm on striking (was 25% before patch 1.13) |
| Other | +8 to light radius, level 30 Hydra (10 charges) |
| Requirement | Level 75 |
Because the class and rolls are random, expect to farm the event repeatedly — or trade your off-class Torches (see our trading guide) toward the one your build needs.
